The Minister of Justice of Georgia, Paata Salia, met the new head of the ICRC delegation in Georgia, Joanna Burton. The Justice Minister held an introductory meeting with Joanna Burton, the new head of the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Georgia.
The Ministry of Justice of Georgia shared glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook Page on September 16, 2026, Wednesday. Notably, the Ministry of Justice also shared a small note about the meeting along with its highlights.
The parties discussed cooperation between the Georgian Ministry of Justice and the ICRC, the organisation’s activities, and issues related to future joint projects.
‘For years, the International Committee of the Red Cross has been a reliable and constructive partner for Georgia. We highly appreciate the organisation’s long-term involvement and the important humanitarian role that the International Committee of the Red Cross plays in supporting displaced persons from the occupied territories of Georgia and people affected by the armed conflict,’ said Paata Salia.
The parties discussed student projects organised by the Georgian Ministry of Justice and the ICRC. The projects promote the deepening of knowledge of human rights and international humanitarian law among young people.
At the end of the meeting, Paata Salia expressed his readiness to continue and strengthen the fruitful cooperation between the Georgian Ministry of Justice and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
