Zestafoni: A chess competition has been held in the municipality. The tournament was held after the name of Jemal Makhatadze.
It is to be added that Zestafoni hosted the chess tournament for the eighth time in a row. Up to 180 participants from different regions of Georgia were involved in this chess contest.b
At the open championship, the chess players who won the prizes were revealed as follows:
- I – place Beka Akhaladze (Kutaisi)
- II- place Tamar Esadze (Kutaisi)
- III- place Saba Alalidze (Zestafoni)
It is worth noting that the representatives of Zestafoni City Hall also participated in the award distribution ceremony. The tournament was attended by the vice president of the Georgian Chess Federation, Gia Giorgadzeb and the international chess grandmaster, Nana Ioseliani who also participated in the awarding ceremony and motivated the attending players.
Notably, “Jemal Makhatadze Memorial 2024” was organized by the Zestafoni City Hall Chess Federation and supported by Zestafoni City Hall. The winners received cash prizes letters of participation  and a medals as well.
The purpose of the tournament is to popularize chess among the youth. Chess is known as a game that helps to develop the brain capacity of the attendees.
The objective was also to raise awareness and identify talented young people. These talented people will be polished and then sent to national, regional, and international competitions. Â Jemal Makhatadze was an honored teacher of the Zestafoni Chess School who served to educate future generations for years and provided high-quality training for many chess compositions.
The participating students were proud when they posed for pictures with their prizes. Some of the children’s parents were also present on this occasion.   Everyone liked the children’s performance, who played very well.
A significant number of participants competed against their opponents with full dedication. Â Â The chief guest of the occasion appreciated the performance of all and encouraged them to continue their practice in the future as well.
