In the capital city Tbilisi a discussion club has been established. This club was established through the initiative of volunteers.
The main goal of club is to assist young people in enhancing their English language skills and fostering critical thinking. This club is being run by a dedicated group of volunteer leaders, including Tekla Modebadze, Keto Lutidze, Salome Sebiskveradze.
Elene Mtskhvetadze, Mariam Zaridze, and Ana Kebadze are also some other who are contributing to this direction as well. These club members are being mentored by Lizi Lomidze, who was honoured as the 2024 National Volunteer of the Year.
It is also worth to note that discussion club gathers weekly at the Youth Agency, where participants engage in various activities to improve their abilities. At the same time the peace corps volunteer Ella Morrison has been playing an active role in the development and facilitation of the club’s training program.
Moreover, at the heart of the club’s activities are discussions on a wide range of topics. These topics will resonate with young people aspirations such as exchange programs, opportunities for studying abroad, and the significance of volunteering in society.
Notably throughout these weekly meetings, the club members communicate in English. This use of English also allows them to practice their language skills while also developing practical knowledge in areas like public speaking, debate, and critical analysis. This dynamic format of using English in communication skills helps the participants grow not only in their language proficiency but also in their ability to express their thoughts and ideas clearly and confidently.
As per the organisers such discussions are just part of initiatives which are part of a broader project called “Volunteering for Positive Change,” which is being implemented by the “Helping Hand”. The helping hand is none of best LEPL organization.
The project is supported by the Youth Agency and works in close partnership with local self-government bodies of country. By providing a platform for young people to improve their language skills and critical thinking abilities, the discussion club plays a crucial role in fostering youth development.
As pet the members of civil society this initiative not only promotes personal growth but also strengthens the community by encouraging a culture of learning, collaboration, and positive change.
