A dedicated meeting was held recently to discuss the overall development strategy of the Erusheti National Park. The meeting discussed the comments and opinions of the General public which will be incorporated into the final document.
It is worth mentioning that the e-draft of the management plan was prepared within the framework of the “Save Nature-Georgia” project of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture and the Swedish Government.
The plan has been developed with the involvement of many teams of national consultants from the non-governmental organization “Ekoton,” the Agency of Protected Areas the Administration of the Erusheti National Park  and the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture.
It was also prepared with the participation of the local population, as well as representatives of the municipality, non-governmental organizations, and other interested parties. It’s important to note that the management plan defines the long-term goals and appropriate management approaches for the protected areas.
The plan is designed to promote effective management of protected areas, environmental education of the community and the sustainable development of ecotourism, ensuring the park’s future.
Erusheti National Park was established in 2021 in Akhaltsikhe and Aspindze municipalities. Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and other agencies stressed the need to implement environmentally friendly policies to protect the country’s flora and fauna. They also added that the growing threat of climate change could make the country more vulnerable to environmental issues.
The main objective behind the creation of the protected areas was to underline the importance of the natural resources of the country. Another key objective was to preserve the rich biodiversity of Georgia  a source of national pride and a treasure we are committed to protecting.
The country has also made legislative changes to protect the environment. At the same time the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection has launched many schemes, projects, and other awareness drives to make the general public aware of the importance of protecting the country’s natural resources and how it can contribute to the development of the country’s economy as well.
