Georgia: Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee of the Parliament, Irakli Kovzanadze, and Chairman of the European Integration Committee, Maka Bochorishvili, held an official meeting with the representatives of the National Bank and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development on the issue of Georgia joining the Single Euro Payment Area (SEPA).
“Georgia’s accession to the Single Euro Payment Area (SEPA) will be an important step forward for the country’s financial sector,” said Irakli Kovzanadze, chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee.
According to him, bank transfers in the Eurozone will become easier and cheaper, which is beneficial for both businesses and citizens.
According to Maka Bochorishvili, the chairman of the European Integration Committee, it is desirable for Georgia to finish the preparatory work for the application to join SEPA on time and to prepare the legislative changes that are necessary to meet the SEPA criteria.
At the meeting, they talked about the preparation of legislative initiatives necessary for joining the SEPA geographical space.
The chairpersons of the committee expressed their readiness to support the timely conduct of the legislative process in the Parliament of Georgia in this direction.
The meeting was attended by: Vice Presidents of the National Bank: Archil Mestvirishvili and Papuna Lezhava, as well as the Head of the Department of Capital Market Development and Pension Reforms of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Giorgi Gurgenidze.
