The mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, who is visiting Uzbekistan, and the mayor of Tashkent, Jakhongir Artikkhojaev, signed a memorandum of cooperation between the capitals.
The meeting of mayors was held in Tashkent, within the framework of the official visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia. The parties discussed Georgia-Uzbekistan relations and discussed the prospects of cooperation between the capitals.
The meeting emphasized the activation of political and economic relations between the two countries, which is evidenced by the visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia and the official delegation to Uzbekistan. It was hoped that such high-level visits would contribute to further deepening of relations.
According to Kakha Kaladze, Tbilisi attaches great importance to the development of cooperation with Tashkent, especially in the field of tourism. He also emphasized the fact that one of the central streets of Tashkent bears the name of Shota Rustaveli, where Shota Rustaveli’s monument is also located.
The parties focused on the opportunities provided by the signing of the memorandum of cooperation between Tbilisi and Tashkent. After the meeting, the mayors signed a memorandum of cooperation between Tbilisi and Tashkent.
“We had the opportunity to sign a memorandum of cooperation with the mayor of Tashkent, which is very important. Within the framework of the mentioned memorandum, we will have the opportunity to cooperate in different directions, which is a great opportunity to further deepen the relations between Tbilisi and Tashkent, to make them even more interesting and friendly. It is also welcome that direct flights have already been scheduled – it is possible to arrive both in Tbilisi and in Tashkent twice a week, which will contribute to the development of the tourist destination. Within the framework of the visit, we also had the opportunity to open the rehabilitated monument of Shota Rustaveli and the surrounding area, which is very beautiful. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Ambassador of Georgia to Uzbekistan, Zurab Abdushelishvili, for all this.
In addition, the mayors of Tashkent and Tbilisi visited the situation center of Tashkent City Hall.
“Today in Tashkent we are hosting a Georgian delegation headed by the country’s prime minister. Friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Georgia are very close. Our joint event, which involves the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between Tashkent and Tbilisi, is proof that we will continue to deepen cooperation between the cities, which in turn includes the development of the economy, politics and humanitarian spheres. I am glad that our Georgian friends are so close to us in terms of traditions, culture and economic development. We will further deepen our economic relations in the near future”, said the mayor of Tashkent.
