Adjara: The local administration of the Adjara municipality of Georgia has announced to introduce a new service for the welfare and health of mothers and children.
Recently a presentation was held at the Hotel “Redison” in Batumi. This was the official presentation of the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Protection joint project of Georgia and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). It was held on the theme of “Continuous, high-quality medical services in the field of maternal and child health care field”.
This significant event was attended by Adjara Minister of Health Nino Nizharadze First Deputy Minister Mari Zanakidze , regional officials, members of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, medical service providers in the field of maternal and child health and representatives of Georgia’s primary health services.
Minister Nino Nizharadze stated, “The Ministry of Health of Georgia together with the Japan International Development Agency (JICA) has already begun to implement an important project in Adjara.
This will involve high-quality supervision of pregnant women and newborns. Moreover within the framework of the pilot program a strategy for the supervision of pregnant women and children under five years will be developed so that they can enjoy the benefits of early pregnancy care also”.
“A special manual will be prepared for pregnant women and new parents which will improve the quality of continuous care of mothers and children and raise parents’ awareness which is the project’s main goal”, added the minister”.
Notably the event is being supported by the Adjara Public Health Center. The Maternal and Child Health Manual includes supervising and developing maternal, newborn and children 0-5 years old. The document will focus on antenatal care, vaccinations for children, growth monitoring and educational messages for pregnant women and family members.
The JICA is a major agency working to create awareness among pregnant women so that they can give birth to healthy children. Women who maintain a healthy lifestyle during the early months of pregnancy are expected to give birth to healthy children. A newborn with a health complication is considered a liability whereas a healthy child is considered an asset for any country.
