Tbilisi: An impressive event was held today at the Borjom-Kharagauli National Park. The Agency of Protected Areas organized the event to commemorate World Ranger Day. Every year, July 31 is celebrated as World Ranger Day to recognize the ranger’s contribution to the conservation of natural resources, especially forests.
The event held by the Agency of Protected Areas was organized under the framework of the “Save Nature-Georgia” program of the Georgian Ministry of Environment and Agriculture and the Swedish Government. Project Save Nature Georgia is a joint program of the Georgian Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture and the Swedish government.
The event was graced by esteemed presence of the Minister of Environment and Agriculture Otar Shamugia. The minister was also accompanied by the acting Chairman of the Protected Areas Agency Besik Kusid, and the Manager of the “Save Nature – Georgia” program of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture and Swedish Government Natia Beridze.
All the chief guests of the event  congratulated the rangers on their professional day. They also appreciate their selfless services to the nation. It is worth mentioning that within the framework of the event dedicated to Rangers’ Day this year  in all administrations of protected areas “Ranger of the Year” was selected. All the elected rangers of the year were given symbolic gifts. Moreover  the exhibition of photos taken by the rangers was held.
The event’s key speakers also remembered and honoured those rangers who died while performing their duty. 450 rangers protect Georgia’s protected territories  which are distributed in 24 territorial administrations. More than 13% of Georgia’s territory is under the protection of rangers.
Save Nature Georgia official  also shared the information on its official Facebook page. The Facebook post stated that today  we celebrate World Ranger Day. we like to  congratulate each and every Ranger today and  would like to thank all of them for their selfless services.
