Agriculture Ministry discusses issues of Save Nature-Georgia 2021-2024 project

Tbilisi: The Ministry of Environment and Agriculture discussed the current issues of the project "Save Nature - Georgia 2021-2024." The program "Save Nature - Georgia 2021-2024" is developed by the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture on the basis of a thematic dialogue with the Embassy of Sweden.

Tbilisi: The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture discussed the current issues of the project “Save Nature – Georgia 2021-2024.” The program “Save Nature – Georgia 2021-2024” is developed by the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture on the basis of a thematic dialogue with the Embassy of Sweden.

The program is related to the strategies and action plans of the Georgian Government for biodiversity and air quality monitoring. It is noteworthy that, at this stage, the project budget is up to 6 million euros.

At the meeting, the Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Otar Shamugia, heard information about the plan for the restoration of Chali forests in Krtsanisi Forest Park, the project of improvement of the protected areas management system, as well as the measures taken and planned for biodiversity conservation and monitoring.

 The meeting was held under the chair of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Otar Shamugia and the heads of relevant services of the Ministry.

The program embraces specific actions envisaged under the strategies and action plans of the Government of Georgia in the biodiversity and air quality monitoring fields.

“The respective program will support biodiversity protection and recovery actions. Furthermore, it will enable the Government to purchase new automated air quality monitoring stations to improve the monitoring of air quality,” said Eric Illes, Head of Development Cooperation and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden to Georgia.

Notably, The project, at the time of launch, had an overall budget of 56,500,000 Swedish krona, which was planned to span over the years 2021-2024 . The Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, LEPL Agency of Protected Areas, LEPL National Environment Agency and LEPL National Wildlife Agency are direct the implementers of the project.
