New Walnut and Almond Processing Unit in Chumlaki

A new Walnut and Almond Processing unit has been established in the Chumlaki Village under the Gurjaani Municipality of Georgia. This was established with the active support of the Georgian government and the USAID agency.

Tbilisi: A new Walnut and Almond Processing unit has been established in the Chumlaki Village under the Gurjaani Municipality of Georgia. This was established with the active support of the Georgian government and the USAID agency.

At the inauguration ceremony First Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Nino Tandilashvili, Ambassador of the United States to Georgia Robin Danigan and State Commissioner of Kakheti Giorgi Aladashvili were also present in the village of Chumlaki of Gurjaani Municipality.

This is a modern Unit for walnut and almond processing with financial support from the state and USAID. They also visited the factory equipped with state of art infrastructure and other latest machinery.

Nino Tandilashvili, first deputy minister of environment and agriculture, stated, “It is very important to have the support of the US government for the agricultural sector. We are jointly implementing such projects that, in the end, will bring even more progress in the field of agriculture”.

On the occasion Robin Dunnigan said that, this walnut and almond processing plant is the result of close and joint cooperation between the private and public sectors of the Country, as well as USAID, to empower local farmers, create jobs and empower local farmers.

It is worth mentioning that USAID is a major humanitarian international agency. USAID is supporting many projects in Georgia as well.

Notbaly Nuts Processing LLC company has invested 3 million GEL to establish this factory, including 500,000 GEL as a grant from the Rural Development Agency. The company will also get benefits from concessionary Agro credit agencies of the country. The production capacity of the plant is 600 tons.

At this stage, the realisation of manufactured products is carried out on the domestic market but in the future, products will be exported as well.

It is noteworthy that to boost the processing and preserving infrastructure, the Rural Development Agency has supported 15 industries processing Kaklovani crops, state co-financing exceeds 7.1 million Gel.

After visiting the processing unit, they also have interaction with the factory workers. Workers of the unit were busy in the processing of Almonds and walnuts.

They also inspected the machinery of the unit.
It is opined by the experts that these types of processing units are very beneficial for the food processing industry of the country.

The government is Vowed to providing every possible aid and Assistance to these units. The processing units are also a major source of employment in the region.
