National Academy of Science of Georgia discusses AKIS module

On June 26, the National Academy of Science of   Georgia discussed issues of the agriculture knowledge and innovation system(AKIS) model. Solominn Pavliashvili, the deputy minister of the environment and agriculture  also attended the event and explained the country’s agriculture-related development as well.

 

On the same occasion  the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture  Solomon Pavliashvili, presented the Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System (AKIS) module to the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia. During the whole session  the academy members received detailed information about Georgia’s agricultural knowledge and innovation system.

 

Georgian Minister Solomon Pavliashvili spoke about the importance of AKIS systems and extension services in EU ( European Union) countries and noted that the AKIS system provides interested parties with access to knowledge and innovations in agriculture and implements effective coordination mechanisms.  It is also to be mentioned that the members of the National Academy of Sciences positively evaluated the support for the introduction of effective coordination mechanisms between different institutions in the agricultural direction and the reforms implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture.

 

Similarly the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia  Roin Metreveli, members of the National Academy of Sciences, representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, and invited guests attended and addressed the meeting.

 

 

Notably the meeting was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, within the framework of the project “Modernization of the Vocational Education System in Georgian Agriculture VET (Phase 3)”  which is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

 

They also touched on climate change and its adverse effects on the country’s agricultural sector. The deputy agriculture minister said the ministry is making its best efforts to adopt sustainable agriculture practices in the country.  He also added that the adverse effects of climate change can be mitigated with the collective efforts of all stakeholders.
