Akhaltsikhe Municipality, Georgia: A regular council meeting working on issues of persons with disabilities was held at Akhaltsikhe Municipality Hall.
Councilors discussed issues on the agenda, including amendments to Akhaltsikhe Municipality’s budget for social assistance, programs for people with disabilities, cultural events, and infrastructure projects. Pay attention to the implementation of public transport services in Akhaltsikhe Municipality and the establishment of beneficial conditions for different categories of groups or beneficiaries.
Shalva Gogoladze, representative of A(a)IP Akhaltsikhe Municipal Transport, provided detailed information about the concessions to the council members. It was noted that in the territory of Akhaltsikhe municipality, registered severely disabled persons, visually disabled persons, war veterans with disabilities, disabled minors, beneficiaries of the “Akhaltsikha House of Virtues,” public and private schools pupils in the territory of the municipality travel free of charge. In addition, veterans of war and defense forces and their equals and students of Samtshe-Javakheti State University will have the right to travel with a reduced fare of -50% discount.
In turn, the board members positively assessed the information presented, expressed their views on the changes to the Social Assistance Policy, and presented their suggestions and initiatives to the Board.
It is worth noting that the Council for Persons with Disabilities represents the Akhaltsikha Municipality Mayor’s office, which, within its jurisdiction, will discuss the issues of creating conditions for the provision of decent coexistence and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities in Akhaltsinkha Municipality.
The council consists of representatives of City Hall, an NGO, the social service agency Samtske-Javakheti Social Service Center, and citizens living in the municipality.
