Georgia: The Akhaltsikhe Municipality Council announces a competition for agricultural land plot selection to arrange trial planting of grape varieties, which will be held in Samtskhe-Javakheti, Georgia.

The Caucasus Regional Environment Center (REC Caucasus) announces a selection call for agricultural land plots for trial planting of vine varieties in Samtshe-Javakheti as part of the Global Environment Protection Fund (GEF) grant project “Sustainable Management of Agrarian Biodiversity in Ecosystems and Rural Settlements for the Samtshe-javakheti region.”
The project aims to support local revenue growth through sustainable management of agrarian biodiversity and to promote the restoration and distribution of local endemic grape species in Samtskhe-Javakheti.
To achieve this goal, along with a number of measures, the project envisages arranging trial planting of vine varieties and providing appropriate agrotechnical support during the years 2024-2026.
The estimated total cost for preparing the vineyard plantation is 750,000.00 GEL, of which the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center (REC Caucasus) is co-financing 55%, and the beneficiary’s co-financed volume shall amount to 45% as a cash payment.
Participation in the competition: A natural person living in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region who owns a plot of land for agricultural purposes in Aspindza or Akhaltsikhe municipality can participate in the competition.

The signing of the Agreement: The Caucasus Regional Environmental Center (REC Caucasus) and the owner/farmer of the selected agricultural land will sign an agreement on cooperation generation.
Subject of the contract: The contract will be a preliminary agreement on cooperation to facilitate the arrangement and management of the cultivation of vine varieties.
Selection Criteria: Agricultural land will be selected in two stages. In the first stage, agricultural land will be chosen based on the application and document “Criteria for arranging trial planting of vine varieties in Samtshe-Javakheti for the selection competition of agricultural land.” There are two or three plots to choose from.
In the second stage, selected plots will be inspected and evaluated based on established criteria, with the participation of specialists from the “Scientific and Research Center of Agriculture.”
At the final stage, the decision will be made based on the results of the field study of the proposed plots, and 1 (one) farmland will be selected for the trial cultivation of vine varieties. Eventually, an agreement will be signed with the owner/farmer of the selected agricultural land to generate cooperation.
