Georgia: The assessment of damage caused by the elements is underway in the Alaverdi monastery complex. Due to the Karachos’ phased arrangement, the agency’s group of architect-restorers and constructors was allowed to assess the condition of the cladding on the southern arm of the temple.
Parallel construction of the western side of the Cathedral near the Minashen (Stoa) has begun, allowing experts to fully assess the situation and plan for repair work on the damaged kramite tire.
At the same time, specialists assessed the condition of the gate bell on the inside of the Galavan and the tire of the Episcopal House to the north.
Scaffolding is planned to be installed near the gate bell. After removing the tin tire, it will be evaluated, and the necessary rehabilitation works will be scheduled. The damaged crate tire of the Episcopal House needs rehabilitation, for which the Carrasco will be built on the outer perimeter.
It’s important to note that the decision to immediately build a scaffold on the facade of the Cathedral, in agreement with representatives of the Diocese of Alaverde and the agency, was a collaborative one. This joint effort ensures that the restoration process is carried out with the best interests of the complex in mind.
As the public is aware, on June 26, Georgian Minister of Culture and Sports Tea Tsulukiani, together with the General Director of the National Agency for Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia Nikoloz Aznaurashvili, visited the Alaverdi Monastery Complex. Their visit was a significant step in keeping the public informed and involved in the restoration process.
The Alaverdi Cathedral, the tallest church in Georgia, holds the esteemed status of a cultural heritage monument. Its significance is not just historical, but also a source of pride and responsibility for all of us.
