Georgia:Â The First Deputy Head of the State Security Service, Alexi Batiashvili, met with Parliamentary Trust Group members within the parliamentary supervision framework. The meeting discussed the situation in the occupied regions of Georgia and security on the occupation line.
In light of ongoing processes in the region, the meeting discussed challenges facing the country and assessed counterintelligence activities carried out by the State Security Service in 2023.
As the head of the confidence group, the chairman of the Parliament’s Defense and Security Committee, Irakli Beraia, said the issues were discussed in detail at the meeting.

Irakli Beraia is a Georgian politician and intelligence officer, former director for intelligence gathering in the State Security Service of Georgia and a member of Parliament since 2016, affiliated with the ruling Georgian Dream party since its rise to power.Â
He said, “The State Security Service presented in detail information about the current situation in the occupied regions and the steps the service takes to respond to the problems caused by the occupation, including ensuring security measures on the occupation line, and also the steps the service will take to the special forces of foreign countries.”
The Members of the Trust Group had the opportunity to ask questions, to which representatives of the service were given exhaustive answers. The National Security Service is one of the outstanding agencies with a high quality of accountability; they conduct regular hearings on various important issues within the Trust Group.Â

The meeting was attended by Giorgi Trapaidze, Director of the Counterintelligence Department of the State Security Service, Director of the Information-Analytics Department Giorgi Sabedashvili and members of the Trust Group – Chairman of the Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee Anri Okhanashvili and First Deputy Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee Alexander Tabatadze.
