Georgia: Theoretical-practical training on the topic: “Study and evaluation of local, salude direction curry varieties” was held in Alvani village of Akhmeti municipality.
The Scientific Research Center for Agriculture (SRCA) shared glimpses of the event on its official Facebook page on July 27, 2025. SRCA also shared a small note about the event along with its photographs.
The main aim of the event was to raise awareness of the importance of Cary’s local gene pool research and issues related to the identification of prospective species in the Salude direction. The training was held in two parts.
Theoretical Part of the Training
In the theoretical part, farmers were introduced to the historical importance of curry culture, directions of its use, and ongoing research work by the Bioagricultural Service.
Practical Part of the Training
The practical part was held on the trial plot of local farmer, Friedon Shvelashvili (Tusheti 2024 Ltd), where participants inspected local varieties of curry in field conditions and underwent practical training.
The event was led by Mzeinab Saralidze, a doctor of agriculture and senior specialist of the bioagriculture service.
During the training, special attention was paid to the role of Kerry as a historically important culture in the mountainous regions of Georgia, including in the beer production tradition. It was noted that the Center is actively working on finding and reproducing local varieties, which are essential for their preservation and use both for food and technology purposes.
Local farmers and representatives of the field of agriculture participated in the event. Such a type of training not only promotes the protection of biodiversity, but also creates the basis for the development of small entrepreneurship and traditional Georgian beer production.
