Georgia: In Batumi, LLC, “Ambassador Batumi Island” made an environmental decision to set up an artificial island in the Black Sea Equatoria.
Considering the scale and importance of the project to build an artificial island in the Black Sea Aquatoria and ensure maximum transparency, the National Environment Agency publishes information on the administrative production carried out on this project.
LLC “Ambassador Batumi Island” was represented at the National Environment Agency of SP on November 24, 2023. Report of the impact assessment on the environment of artificial islands in the marine aquarium in Batumi and the standard documentation provided by law.
As part of the production, the agency provided for the creation of an expert committee and the inclusion of relevant authorities in the administrative output. To inform the concerned community and participate in the decision-making process, full transparency was ensured.
To clarify issues and provide complete information, the agency stopped administrative production on April 19, 2024, and requested the company to provide additional/finished documentation related to the project. The detailed documentation was also made public, and there was a deadline for those interested in providing comments/opinions. The information was sent to the expert committee for consideration and to draw relevant conclusions.
At the production stage, Terminal 1 LLC reported correspondence to the agency, stating that Terminal 1 LLC considered the construction/arrangement of the island unauthorized within the project because the project area of the island covers the entry, maneuver, and stand route of future international ships at Terminal 1 LLC’s dock and creating a threat to the terminal’s safety Yes to functioning. Based on this, on August 2, 2024, the agency suspended administrative production again and requested Ambassador Batumi Island LLC to provide detailed information/documentation regarding the issues raised by Terminal 1 LLC.
“Terminal 1” LLC was addressed to the agency on August 5, 2024, Because the issues mentioned in the letters were excluded from the boundaries of the road and, therefore, the competence of the National Environment Agency, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia is acquainted with this and asked for detailed opinions. According to the position presented by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, given the distance between “Terminal 1” and “Ambassador Batumi Island” LLC, the tankers entering and leaving the port used by “Terminal1” will not be restricted; also, the construction and its subsequent operation planned by “Ambassador Batumi island” LLC will not pose a threat LLC of operation “Terminal 1” Underground harbor infrastructure functioning, including safe entry/exit of ships into terminal aquarium.
Given those mentioned above and based on the letter “Ambassador Batumi Island” LLC on August 12, 2024, the administrative production has been continued.
