Finland will host the World Cup in flag football, the non-contact version of American football. For the first time, the Georgian American National Football Team will participate in the tournament with the support of the Georgian Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Tbilisi Municipality Hall.
Thirty-two national teams will participate in the World Cup. The Georgian team will compete in Group C. Along with him in this group are the current European champion German team and the British and Swedish teams.
The tournament is being held under the auspices of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF). The teams are divided into eight groups. The two best teams in each group will continue to compete in the playoffs. The World Championship will be held on August 27-30.
The Georgian team won the right to compete in the World Cup after participating in the European Championship in 2023. Georgian athletes who appeared for the first time in this championship took the 16th place.
It should be noted that in the 2028 Summer Olympics, which will be held in Los Angeles, American football will be represented in a version of flag football, and the Georgian national team will also participate in the election cycle.
