Authorities expose illegal acquisition of fossil fuels in Marneuli

Marneuli Municipality, Georgia: The employees of the Lower Kartli Regional Authority of the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture have revealed the fact of illegal acquisition of fossil fuels in Marneuli municipality.

The Environmental Supervision Department of Georgia shared the glimpses of the fossil fuels which were illegally acquired in Marneuli Municipality, on its official Facebook Page on March 12, 2026, Thursday. The Georgian Department also shared a small note about the revealed facts along with its glimpses.

Near the village of Kizilajlo, a citizen illegally obtained 335 cubic meters of basalt stone using special equipment. Damage caused to the environment as a result of the violation of the law is 2 thousand GEL.

Because the fact contains signs of criminal offenses, materials were sent to the appropriate authorities for further response. Detection, detection, and prevention of the facts of illegal use of natural resources is a priority for the Department of Environmental Supervision.

In order to implement effective environmental state control in this direction, departmental crews carry out 24-hour non-stop patrolling throughout the country and respond immediately to each message received on the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture’s hotline (153).

As a result, only in the territory of Lower Kartli, the employees of the regional administration, in 2025, revealed about 100 facts of illegal acquisition and violation of the conditions of the license to use stone. The Department of Environmental Supervision will implement the control of the conditions of the license for the use of useful fossil fuels from June 2025.

The Georgian Department of Environmental Supervision tells the citizens of the country to strictly follow environmental regulations. According to the department, such activities not only break the law but also cause significant damage to the environment.
