Tbilisi: The Award Distribution ceremony to honour the Parasportsperson of the Country was held on December 14, 2023. This was held at “Sheraton Grand Metekhi Palace” and many best para sportsmen across the country were awarded.
It is worth mentioning that this ceremony was held in connection with the 20th anniversary of the Paralympic Committee of Georgia on December 14. This historic and significant event was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia, Ioseb Bagaturia.
On this occassion Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Giorgi Amilakhvari, Ambassador of Emergency and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Georgia Robin L. Danigan, Japan’s Emergency and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Georgia Ishidzuka Hideki, also members of Georgian Parliament and representatives of sports society were also present.
This event was held with the support of the Georgian Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and Tbilisi City Hall. The general sponsor of the event is “The Bank of Georgia”, and the host – is Teliani Veli”.
Winners of the following nominations have been announced at the occasion:
The best young parasportman of 2023 – Maka Quinchia;
The most developed parasportman of 2023 -Leah Chachibaia;
The best coach of Paralympic sports 2023 -Malkhaz Meskhi;
The best paranacres of the year -Georgian national team of para taekwondo;
Veteran Parasportsman – Iago Gorgodze;
Veteran para sportsmen – Nika Twauri.
Davit Maisuradze was awarded for his special merit in the development of the Paralympic movement.
The best para-sports person of the man of the year 2023 became Revaz Chikoidze
The best female parathlete of the year 2023 -Irma Khetsuriani.
The main objective of the Georgian Paralympic Committee is to include persons with disabilities in the Paralympic movement and prepare them for the highest sporting events at national, regional and international levels. It also want to promote them for healthy lifestyle and the values of the Paralympics movement.
Commitee also aims to Raise public awareness about persons with disabilities.This is also recognised by the Georgian Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and the International Paralympic Committee and is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Youth of Georgia in the training and development of parathlete athletes.
In many countries across the globe many initiatives are being taken to promote the participation of para sportspersons in the sports world. Many parasportsman attended the event on the wheelchairs. The winners were given a shield and a certificate of appreciation as well.
A big digital screen was also installed behind the stage. On this Digital screen, the performance event of Parasportspersons was being played.Winners of the award felt proud and happy to receive recognition from the organisers of the event.
Winner also shares their experience with the audiences. At the same time the organisers and other key speakers of the event also appreciated the winners and also encouraged them to participate in all events of national as well as international level.
