The Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Solomon Pavliashvili, met Matthew Buske, the Head of the European Commission’s Neighborhood and the Enlargement Negotiations (DGA1 NEAR) and Devor Pekan, the Head of the General Directorate for Environmental Affairs (DGA1 ENV) Ann.
The Meeting of the Georgian minister Solomon Pavliashvili and European Commission’s head Matthew Buske was held in Belgium.
Solomon Pavliashvili summarized the reforms implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture in the field of waste management and circular economy and thanked the EU for its support.
Together with the Georgian Deputy Minister, the delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, the relevant authorities of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, and the organizations with the expanded liability of the manufacturer.
“Participation of private sector manufacturers’ expanded liability organizations in the composition of the delegation clearly shows the readiness of the Georgian government to implement green transformation and contribute to the development of the economy with a circular model,” – said Solomon Pavliashvili.
The High-ranking representatives of the European Commission positively assessed the progress made by Georgia, highlighting Georgia’s achievements in the process of integration with Europe.
“Candidate status is a great responsibility for the country and, at the same time, creates new opportunities.” Georgia should start working for EU membership, which will require a significant transformation of economic development and an approach to European market requirements and EU environmental policy”, – said Matthew Buske, Head of the European Commission’s Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DGA1 NEAR).
The deputies of the minister, Solomon Pavliashvili, together with the members of the delegation, were present in organizations of the expanded liability of the manufacturer and in waste processing companies, where meetings were held on waste management, including the expanded liability of manufacturer and the implementation of a circular economy in EU countries.
