Georgia: With the support of the Georgian Ministry of Culture, the Bidzina Kvernadze International Music Festival was opened in Sighnaghi. The festival began with an evening devoted to the works of the renowned composer and the unveiling of his bust.
The Ministry of Culture of Georgia shared glimpses of the event on its Official Facebook page on June 28, 2025, Sunday. The Ministry also shared some information related to the wonderful occasion along with its glimpses.
In the main square of the city, the bust of Bidzina Kvernadze was opened by the Minister of Culture of Georgia Tinatin Rukhadze, and the composer’s wife Nestan Meskha. Tinatin Rukhadze congratulated the public on the opening of the festival and wished the participants success.
On the evening, led by theater expert Nikoloz Tsulukidze, the composer’s immortal works were performed by the symphony orchestra led by Nika Nikvashvili, singers Nani Bregvadze, Eka Mamaladze, Sopho Khalvash, Konstantine Kipiani, Achiko Nizharadze, Giorgi Sukhitashvili, Meko Kavtaradze’s youth chapel.
Bidzina Kvernadze Award for contribution to Georgian culture was given to the composer’s wife Nestan Meskhi, Nani Bregvadze, and music expert Manana Akhmeteli. It should also be noted that Nika Nikvashvili is the author of the festival idea, founder, and musical director of the concert.
The goal of the festival is to promote Georgian musical art, discover young talents support their creative potential, and promote collaboration between Georgian and foreign artists.
The opening of the festival was attended by the Minister of Environment and Agriculture David Songulashvili, the delegate of Gurjaani, Sagarejo, Dedoplistskaro, and Sighnaghi municipalities Gia Benashvili, members of Parliament David Matikashvili, and Gela Samkharauli, the Mayor of Sighnaghi Municipality Malkhaz Begiashvili.
