The Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom and Sweden, Boris Johnson and Magdalena Anderson, have signed a political solidarity agreement under which Britain and Sweden will help each other in the event of an attack on any state.
Johnson says the pact will help each other in the event of an attack on Sweden or the UK.
Prime Minister Anderson even says the pact includes military assistance in times of crisis, and he also clarified that the agreement also provides for the sharing of intelligence information and the holding of joint military exercises.
“In the event of a catastrophe or attack in Sweden, the United Kingdom will help Sweden with what Sweden demands.
“This agreement will enable us to share more intelligence information, enhance military training, and jointly develop the technology. This is an agreement that will uphold the values of both Sweden and the United Kingdom,” Johnson said.
Moreover, Johnson was also asked at the briefing what would happen if Sweden needed assistance in the period from its application for NATO membership to its accession. In response, Johnson said Sweden’s membership in the alliance would be decided, although the UK would “help Sweden no matter what course of action it chooses in terms of membership”.
Johnson said it was no less important than the declaration promised Sweden the same support from the UK.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom says he is honoured to sign a declaration that will bring the two countries even more closer.
“We have a firm and unequivocal position in support of Sweden and Finland. The signing of these security declarations is a symbol of an ongoing guarantee between our countries,” said Boris Johnson.
British Premier says it is an unfortunate irony that EU leaders are considering joint ways to strengthen their defences against 21st-century tyranny.
