The rivers of the Aragvi protected landscape area were filled with 30,000 spawners and brook trout. This will increase number of fishes having low population in rivers.
The releasing brook trout spawn and larvae into the rivers is a method that promotes the reproduction of a vulnerable species and maximizes the natural hatching process. This method of promoting the reproduction of species has been tested in many countries around the world. The Georgian authorises have also adopted this method since long years.
It is worth to note that the ministry of environmental protection and agriculture together with relevant agencies, annually carries out river stocking activities throughout the country. The stocking program in the Aragvi Protected Landscape Area will continue for the next 2 years. It is expected that this will increase the rate of their production.
The special event to release trout was attended by Dusheti municipality Mayor Matsatso Narimanidze, Deputy Mayor Otar Chkheidze, Head of the Biodiversity and Forestry Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture Karlo Amirgulashvili.
At the same time the Director of the A(A)I Aragvi Protected Landscape Nato Tskaruashvili, and Head of the Pshav-Khevsureti National Park Ushisha Tsiklauri, along with their employees also participated in the fish-raising process.
At the opening event the mayor and other representatives themselves put trout in village. It is also to be added that the spawner is a special kind of fish which release eggs as well as sperm in water bodies which increases production of these fishes in such waterbodies.
There are many types of Spawners with their different production capacities. There are some species of spawner which deposits eggs on plants. Similarly, another variety of spawners were released which have highest capacity of reproducing and can be used throughout the year to enhance the reproductions.
At the site Mayor and other representatives said such kind of efforts will continue in future as well. They said that these efforts are being taken for protection of flora and fauna of municipality.
