Brussels: Georgian Minister of Education and Science, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, together with the Chairman of the Board of the Cartu Foundation, Nikoloz Chkhetiani and the Director of Projects and Operations of the Cartu Foundation, Vakhtang Tsagareli, participated in the Annual Conference on Radiation and Oncology.
Within the framework of the conference, which was organized by IBA, an international leader in global medical technology, led by Mikheil Chkhenkeli, the Georgian delegation held meetings with representatives of leading scientific and research centres in the United States and Europe.
According to Mikheil Chkhenkeli, the high standard of the University and the degree of internationalization are conditioned by the approach, which envisages the creation of academic programs in a specific field in cooperation with the world’s leading universities.
The Minister noted that the programs operating at the University at this stage are analogous to the Technical University of Munich. According to him, cooperation with the world’s leading universities will continue actively in the future.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli emphasized that the International Advisory Board, which includes well-known and leading scientists from around the world, and the Industry Advisory Board, which provides policies for the creation of academic programs, play an important role in the strategic development of Kutaisi International University. In addition, the honorary president of the University is a world-renowned scientist and former president of the Technical University of Munich, Professor Wolfgang Hermann.
According to the Minister, with the funding of the Cartu Foundation, the first Hadron Therapy Center in the region is being established on the basis of Kutaisi International University in cooperation with IBA, the world’s leading manufacturer of proton therapy equipment for cancer.
The company has already built two state-of-the-art cyclotrons for the Hadron Therapy Center – one designed entirely for the treatment of tumours and the other for research in medical and nuclear physics.
During the meetings with Mikheil Chkhenkeli, well-known scientists from leading scientific-research centres were interested in the project of the Kutaisi International University Adrone Therapy Center and expressed readiness to be actively involved in the centre’s scientific-research process.
