Georgia: Some students of the Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University will be interning at the Freiburg University Clinic in Germany. These students are studying at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health Care in BSU and will receive internships under the Medical Education Program at the Freiburg University Clinic in Germany.
The Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (BSU) shared the glimpses of the event on its official Facebook Page on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. They also provided a small note about the details of the event along with the photos.
According to the information shared by the BSU, it should be noted that the students were sent off at the airport by BSU Rector Tite Aroshidze, Deputy Rector Giorgi Katamadze, Dean of the Faculty Rusudan Khukhunaishvili, and Deputy Dean Nato Zosidze. They wished the students successful internship and professional development during their internship.
Winning students and internship details
The winning students, based on the competition announced by the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health Care are – Anano Verdzadze, Elene Kakhidze, Tornike Tedoradze and Giga Putkaradze. These students will get practical experience in the fields of intensive therapy, oncology and surgery at the Freiburg University Clinic.
The internship will be carried out between Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and Freiburg University Clinic in Germany. This initiative will take place within the framework of the memorandum signed earlier this year.
It is noteworthy that this initiative marks a significant step in the global integration of BSU’s medical education. The internship will offer exposure to advanced clinical practices and modern medical technologies at one of Europe’s leading university clinics.
Initiator of the practice is a successful graduate of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. The Doctor of Medicine, Head of the Department of Pancreas and Sarcoma Surgery at the University of Freiburg, who together with Professor Stefan Fichtner Faigl, Clinical Director of the Department of General and Visceral Surgery, will lead the student internships in Germany.
Notably, the internship program not only provides students with valuable hands-on experience. It also strengthens international academic collaboration between Georgia and Germany. The internship was co-financed by Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, Regional Center for Youth and United Society of Doctors of Adjara.
