Chess Olympiad bronze medalist Nana Dzagnidze returns to Georgia

Georgia: Hungary hosted the 45th Chess Olympiad. Georgian chess player Nana Dzagnidze, who won the bronze medal on the individual first board in the tournament, returns to Georgia.

Along with the Bronze medal winner Nana Dzagnidze, a member of the Georgian Women’s and Boys Chess Teams, and legendary chess player Nona Gafrindashvili also returned home from Hungary.

The Georgian women’s chess team finished the Olympics in 6th place, and the Vaj chess team took 19th place.

The 45th Chess Olympiad concluded on September 23 in Hungary, Budapest, with India clinching gold in both Open and Women’s sections, and winning the prestigious Gaprindashvili Cup (for the best combined results in Open and Women’s events). Scoring 21 match points, India’s Open team emerged convincing winner of the event.

It is noteworthy that in Budapest, the 100th anniversary of the World Chess Federation – Fide.

A celebratory event was also held. The event awarded outstanding chess achievers and individual organizations for their exceptional achievements and contribution to the development of chess over the last 100 years.

The Georgian chess women’s team was named the best women’s team of all time, and world chess legend Nona Gafrindashvili was awarded a special prize.

Nana Dzagnidze is a Georgian grandmaster and one of the top female players in the world. Also in the Women’s World Team Championship, she won the team bronze medal in 2011 and 2017.

Aleksandre Maisuradze, the head of the Sports Department of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia, met Georgian chess players at Tbilisi International Airport to congratulate Georgian chess players on their success. Fans and close ones were waiting for chess players.

It should be noted that Georgian chess players were at the Olympics with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia.
