Chinese Expert explores Georgia’s Wine Heritage at Jighaura

Georgia: Within the framework of FAO’s initiative “One Country – One Priority Product”, a Chinese expert in Georgia visited Jighaura’s base on Monday.
The Scientific Research Center for Agriculture (SRCA) of Georgia shared glimpses of the visit on its official Facebook Page on June 29, 2026, Monday. The Scientific Research Center also shared a small note about the visit along with its glimpses.
The Director of the Agricultural Scientific and Research Center of Georgia, Levan Ujmajuridze, hosted Chinese expert Yaning Sia, visiting Georgia within the framework of the Global Initiative “One Country – One Priority Product” (OCOP) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Within the OCOP framework, Georgia has chosen wine as a priority agricultural product. The initiative aims to promote sustainable development of products with cultural heritage, unique characteristics and economic potential, increase their competitiveness and international popularity.
Representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, FAO, and the National Wine Agency were also present at the meeting held at Jighaura base.
During the meeting, Levan Ujmajuridze introduced the guests to the Scientific and Research Center’s activities in the field of vineyard and winemaking. He paid special attention to the importance of protecting, studying, and conserving the genetic resources of Georgian grapes, as well as ongoing local and international studies in the field of agro-diversity conservation and agrarian science.
During the visit, the members of the delegation visited the Jighaura National Ampelographic Collection and the Museum of Vine and Wine, where they got to know the rich heritage of Georgian vineyards and the unique genetic resources. A tasting of wines made from rare Georgian grape varieties was held for guests.
