Deputy Director of Maritime Transport Agency(MTA) Christina Rzgoeva participated in a panel discussion about the smooth transportation of cargo in the middle of the aisle. She talked about the project “digital harbor” in the port sector of Georgia.
“In recent years, the processes in the region have led to the change in freight course and the passage to Georgia on the “middle aisle,” which is. Y. Opening a “window of opportunity.” “It is clear that this process has presented us with many challenges,” said Christina Rzgoeva.
She discussed the digital systems development projects in Georgia’s harbor sector and their importance in increasing its transit potential.
“The Maritime Transport Agency has started the development process of the “National Maritime Single Window System” (NMSW) in the port sector with the support of the US Embassy and the Export Control and Border Security Program (EXBS). In May 2023, we started the implementation phase of the system, and on January 1, 2024 – the “National Maritime Single Window System” will be launched in pilot mode, – said the Deputy Director of the Maritime Transport Agency.
She said, “With the real-time launch of the NMSW system, scheduled for October 1, 2024, it will be fully digitalized at the material documentation-based harbor processes, reduce administrative demands and bureaucratic barriers, improve management of the harbor and logistics processes, and reduce ship delay times in port.” Christina Rzgoeva also spoke about the implementation process of the port union system (PCS) and noted that together with the “marine one window system,” it will significantly improve the management of logistics processes.
The project is being implemented with the financial support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the GOOD GOVERNANCE FUND (GOOD GOVERNANCE FUND). It is worth mentioning that the Georgian PCS project has become the winner of the EBRD Digital Governance Award for 2024.
The discussion was held within the framework of the event dedicated to the start of cooperation between USAID and MAERSK. The parties agreed to cooperate to increase the efficiency of the middle corridor and expand Georgia’s transit potential in the Transcaspian corridor.
At the end of her speech, Christina Rzgoeva thanked USAID’s economic governance program representatives for their support and efforts to strengthen the middle corridor and improve Georgia’s prosperity.
