Otar Shamugia meets Finland’s Ambassador

Otar Shamugia Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia has met Kirsti Narinen Finnish Ambassador to the South Caucasus, and representatives of the Finnish Meteorological Institute to discuss future cooperation in various areas.

Tbilisi: Otar Shamugia Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia has met Kirsti Narinen Finnish Ambassador to the South Caucasus, and representatives of the Finnish Meteorological Institute. The meeting was held with the aim of discussing future cooperation in various areas.

It is to be specifically mentioned that the Minister of Environment and Agriculture Otar Shamugia, Finnish Ambassador to the South Caucasus Kirsti Narinen and representatives of the Finnish Meteorological Institute at the meeting discussed prospects for future cooperation in the areas of risk and disasters caused by climate change, as well as water resources and air quality.

They also discuss the masure to boost the cooperation among both nation in the these areas as well. Speaking further, minister, Otar Shamugia said, “Perfect management of early warning systems in the country is one of our main priorities, and we will complete it as soon as possible, and active work in this direction has been underway for years. Moreover, Long-term cooperation with the Finnish Meteorological Institute and sharing their experiences will bring us important results in our country. It is also imperative to create a system that maximises the risks caused by climate change in the shortest possible time. Notably last year, Georgia received the status of a candidate country of the European Union. The Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, within its jurisdiction, is actively working towards fulfilling its obligations. It is very important to support our partners in these processes”.

Additionally, the Minister focused on the progress and current challenges achieved by the country in the direction of water resources management, as well as air quality monitoring. Otar Shamugia thanked the Finnish side for their support and also expressed hopes that this cooperation between both countries will continue in future as well.

On the other hand, the Finnish Ambassador to the South Caucasus, Kirsti Narinen, stated that Finland supports Georgia on the path of European integration, where environmental issues play an important role, and will contribute as much as possible to achieve the goals set by the country.

This significant and vital meeting was attended by Vasil Gedevanishvili the head of the National Environmental Agency and representatives of relevant services within the Ministry’s system.

It is worth mentioning that due to global warming, rising temperatures, and side effects of climate change, the role of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between all countries has become a necessity.
