The members of the Zestafoni municipality’s youth council launched a cleaning campaign to mark the international earth day. They also gave two slogans on this occasion.
One slogan was “protect the environment” whereas the other slogan was “take care of the earth”. Earth Day which is being celebrated since the year 1970 by many countries of the world was organized in Georgia first time in 1990.
As the day is celebrated with the hosting of many environment-related events and activities, the Zestafoni municipality also organised an event where the participating youth held a cleaning drive .
Approximately thirty to thirty-five young boys and girls were part of the campaign. They all wore green t-shirts to signify the importance of greenery i.e. forest. All of them brought carry bags with them to collect the garbage from the square in the center of the city. The square is named after the Badri Burjanadze.
The employees of the municipality as well as the cleaning service centre also took part in this cleaning drive along with the young members of the youth council. They collected the scattered garbage like wrappers, bottles, crushed papers, and other waste materials thrown randomly by the unaware people of the locality.
At the same time employees of the municipality apprised these young youth council members about the significance of World Earth Day. The discussion on the current burning topics like climate change, rising levels of seas, and increasing global warming was also held.
Similarly they were encouraged to spread awareness with a maximum number of people to protect the environment and tackle the common issues of the entire world like global warming and climate change.
The youth member also shared their experiences and said that they are feeling proud to be part of this noble cause of cleaning. They expressed hopes that the municipality will keep these efforts in the future as well.
Some members stated that other municipalities should also implement measures to protect the environment. The group members in the last posed for a group photo with placards in their hands with slogans.
