Tbilisi: The Communication Commission of Georgia has invited applications from interested people who want to learn advanced aspects of media literacy. The training project is being organized with the help of UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund).
It is worth noting that in the 21st century  media literacy has become a necessary component in the media field. This combination of skills is needed to deal with the challenges of the modern world  and it is gaining more importance daily.
At the same time the role and need for media literacy are especially great for teenagers, as they are the most active users of the digital gadgets and the latest electronic gadgets  such as smartphones, laptops, computers, etc.
However in this digital world  there is also a wide-scale spread of misinformation. False information, disinformation, misinformation, propaganda, and other threats are abundant in the present world and need immediate attention.
It is worth mentioning that from school age the communication commission in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia and with the support of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Â launched a special project to help the new generation learn and deal with the challenges of modern media and the digital space.
This commission project introduced the concept of integrating media literacy into formal education in 2022. Later on  with the efforts of the commissions and other agencies media literacy will be taught as a separate optional subject in classes X-XII of 6 schools in Georgia.
It should also be added that an educational training module  and a manual have been developed under the project. Furthermore  using these techniques 1835 teachers across Georgia have already been trained in teaching media literacy.
In order to provide information to a larger number of people  it is necessary to increase the number of schools that include media literacy in the curriculum and promote its promotion. According to the latest information  teachers who want to undergo ComCom training can register until August 31.
