Batumi, Georgia: The Chairman of the Competition and Consumer Protection Agency of Georgia, Irakli Lekvinadze, stated that consumer service doubled this year, indicating a high rate of confidence in the competition and consumer protection agency.
One of the main areas of the Competition and Consumer Protection Agency is the protection of consumer rights, it is noted that the effectiveness of the agency in 2025 has increased by 65% in comparison to 2024 and in the 2 months of the current year, compared to the similar period of 2025, the GCCA recorded a 92% increase in the number of applications received.
Irakli Lekvinadze, in his speech, paid attention to the main standards, guidelines, and the progress achieved by the agency in recent years in terms of international recognition. According to him, 90% of the cases discussed by the Competition and Consumer Protection Agency are settled in favor of consumers and, in total, more than 1 million Gel were paid to consumers.
“It is a great honor for the Competition and Consumer Protection Agency of Georgia that in 2026-2027 Georgia will lead the International Consumer Protection Network – ICPEN.” This is an important recognition of our institutional development, international cooperation, and the progress the country has made in the field of consumer protection. In the same context, it is particularly noteworthy that the agency won the Consumer Education Award for 2025, established by ICPEN and the World Bank. This award affirms that informing and educating consumers is one of the top priorities of our business,” said the GCCA chairman.
Participants of the event, as well, were addressed by the Member of Parliament Vladimir Bozhadze, Head of the State Supervisory Service of Insurance David Onofrishvili, Chairman of SEMEC David Narmania, Chairman of the National Communications Commission Goga Gulordava, and Deputy Chairman of the Competition and Consumer Protection Agency Levan Kalandadze.
During the event, participants reviewed the standards and enforcement mechanisms implemented to protect consumer rights. The last event within the IV International Consumer Protection Week will be held tomorrow in Tskaltubo.
