COVID-19: Georgia reports 7,482 new cases, 32 deaths

The Georgian Health Ministry said the country had reported 7,482 new cases of COVID-19, with 14,603 recoveries and 32 deaths in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate for the past two weeks in Georgia stands at 28.49 per cent.

The Georgian Health Ministry said the country had reported 7,482 new cases of COVID-19, with 14,603 recoveries and 32 deaths in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate for the past two weeks in Georgia stands at 28.49 per cent.

Overall, there are currently 113,284 active cases of Coronavirus throughout the country. 

Moreover, according to health authorities, a total of 35,583 tests were conducted all over the country within the last 24 hours, out of which 21,538 were rapid antigen tests, and the remaining 14,045 were PCR tests.

Around 2,532 vaccinations have been administered within the last 24 hours.

Since February 26, 2020, the country has recorded a total of 1,591,936 cases of Coronavirus. Out of 1,591,936 cases of COVID-19, a total of 1,462,572 patients have recovered, while 16,054 people have succumbed to it.

The new 7,482 cases of COVID-19 were recorded in several parts of the country. 

  • Tbilisi – 3,272 cases 
  • Adjara – 406 cases 
  • Imereti – 1,266 cases 
  • Kvemo Kartli – 310 cases 
  • Shida Kartli – 455 cases 
  • Guria – 279 cases 
  • Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti – 528 cases 
  • Kakheti – 599 cases 
  • Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 173 cases 
  • Samtskhe-Javakheti – 118 cases 
  • Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti – 76 cases

In Georgia, the new Omicron variant of Coronavirus accounts for about 85% of confirmed Covid-19 cases.

Furthermore, there are currently 5,020 patients who are undergoing treatment in hospitals in Georgia, while 114,560 people are undergoing treatment at home and by consulting their family doctors.

Besides this, 1,108 people infected with COVID-19 are in critical condition, out of which 283 people are on artificial ventilation. 

As of today, around 33.5% of the total population of Georgia has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, which accounts for 12.4L people. As of now, around 28.9L doses of vaccine has been given.

In addition, the Georgian government have also decided to lift up some COVID-19 related limitations on gatherings and public events from March onwards, including club venues being allowed to operate at reduced capacity, to weddings, conferences and other gatherings permitted. 

The Interagency Coordination Council of Georgia has revealed this move on Monday, which oversees pandemic-related rules and regulations in Georgia.

Moreover, on Tuesday, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) of Georgia also announced that Georgia would receive up to 50,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine for Covid-19, which is especially for children aged between five to twelve years, in the 2nd quarter of the year to curb the COVID-19.
