Georgia: Implementing a crime prevention course for teachers starts in cooperation with the Georgian Ministry of Education, Science and Youth and the Ministry of Justice.

A nationwide initiative is empowering teachers and school staff to develop appropriate skills to identify unlawful or difficult behavior among adolescents and respond to it in a timely manner.

The Crime Prevention Course presentation was held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. The Minister of Education, Science and Youth, Giorgi Amilakhvari; the Minister of Justice, Rati Bregadze; the Head of Crime Prevention, Enforcement of Non-Jail Sentences and Probation Agency, Lado Kheladze; and the Advisor to the Prime Minister on Human Rights Protection, Niko Tatulashvili, talked about the initiative’s importance.

The goal of the crime prevention course is to prevent crime for people under 18 years old, which, on the one hand, protects adults from making possible mistakes and conflicts with the law and, on the other hand, protects society.

All public and private school teachers and relevant staff will undergo the training, significantly improving their role in the early crime prevention process and strengthening the juvenile response to appropriate cases.

The course covers thematic areas such as Juvenile justice and juvenile referrals; characteristics of a child’s age-old development; juvenile deviation behavior – possible causes and protective factors; the role of the school in crime prevention; positive discipline techniques for teachers in dealing with juveniles in conflict with the law Bisa; gambling and substance abuse; video game-related disorder in adolescents; towards children Violence and more.

The event was attended by the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth, including representatives of the Justice Training Center and Teachers’ Vocational Training Center, which are directly involved in implementing this initiative. Their support and involvement in this initiative should reassure the public of its importance and their confidence in their ability to make a difference.
