Tbilisi: In a big crackdown against the drugs, the authorities have busted a racket with the arrest of twenty seven people. These included the local Georgian and foreign nationals as well.
It is to be specifically mentioned that these twenty-seven people also involve the 15 drug traffickers. The information about the biggest crackdown was shared by the ministry of Internal Affairs today.
It is also worth noting that the investigation in this regard was ordered under the various provisions of the Georgian criminal code. Some of the main provisions that were imposed are Articles 260, 18-260, 19-260, 262, 265, 273 prima, and 19-273 prima.
These provisions deal with crimes that fall into the categories of illegal manufacture, production, purchase, transfer, sale, import, storage, transport, export, or transit of drugs.
Moreover these article also covers drug-related crime and their analogs, precursors, or new psychoactive substances. As Georgian laws are very strict on the crime of drugs, the accused persons if found guilty can be sentenced up to 20 years of jail term.
The law enforcement official has confiscated a huge quantity of the drugs as evidence to prove their case in a court of law. Moreover as per the orders of the judges the police made several control purchases of drugs and secretly audio-videotaped these purchases.
It must be noted that these drugs and psychoactive substances include the different categories of drugs. Some of the seized drugs included methadone, alpha-PVP, mephedrone, mephedrone, heroin, cocaine, buprenorphine, morphine, thebaine, methamphetamine, Lyrica, and marijuana. A large amount of drug money was also confiscated by the authorities along with the electronic weighing scale, which was used by the drug dealers for the measurement of the drug.
The prosecution office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the state security service, and other agencies of Georgia have already launched many drives to root out the drug menace from the country. There were many arrests as well as the recovery of psychotropic substances by the authorities during the action against the anti-social elements.
