Georgia: 100 years have passed since the birth of famous director and actor Giga Japaridze. The Georgian actor Giga Japaridze was born in Oni on May 29, 1924.
The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia honors Giga Japaridze’s memory and exceptional merit to Georgian culture.
After graduating from high school, Oni continued his studies at the Tbilisi Film Actors Studio branch of the Moscow Film Institute, which graduated in 1947 as a filmmaker. Since then, he has been serving art for the rest of his life.
He was the head of the dramatic collective at Oni Culture House (1939-48 years) and the head of the drummer at Ambrolauri House of Culture (1948-59 years).
As the director of Ambrolauri Public Theater (1959-61 years), he returned to his native place and until 1990 was the director of the Oni Public Theater; from 1990-91, he was the head of the Ambrolauri Public Theater, and from 1992 until the end of his life, he was the director and actor of the “Theater.”
The artist has created many distinguished stage faces, performed engaging performances in Oni and Ambrolauri theaters, and earned these collectives well-deserved victories at Republican, Union, or International festivals of public theaters.
In 1990, in Lithuania, c. Ambrolauri Theater, under its leadership, earned the highest award of the festival—”Kvertkhi”—at the International Festival of Public Theaters in Rokishki.
In the theaters of Oni and Ambrolauri, the artist presented the best examples of world and Georgian classics and modern dramaturgy. For years, the public theaters of Ambrolauri and Oni have been considered worthy; the youth have been trained, crafted, and transformed into cultural centers.
Among Giga Japaridze’s excellent performances are performances by U. Shakespeare’s “Hamlet“ (1965) and “King Lyri“ (1984), Vazha-Pshavela’s “Cut“ (1955), d. “Motherland“ of Eristavi, K. Gutskov’s “Uriel Acosta“ (1974), j. Molieri’s “Doctor Strongly” (1948, 1950 and 1970), R. Japaridze’s “Soldier’s Widow” (1977), a. Getsadze’s “Saints in Hell” (1969) and “Date in the Sky” (1979), n. Dumbadze’s “Don’t be afraid, Mother” (1971) and others.
In 1982, he was invited to the Kutaisi Dramatic Theater, where he successfully performed G. Baazov’s play “The Dumb Speaker.”
Giga Japaridze’s acting career is also rich and diverse. She performed more than 100 roles from both classical and contemporary repertoire. The actor participated in radio and television programs and feature films; she is the author of plays such as “The Judgment of the Brothers,” “The Secret of the Naive,” “Ghataki Millionaire,” and “Oi, Mother Tongue! “
Georgian society properly appreciated the artist’s achievement and celebrated his 75th anniversary with dignity. He was dedicated to a five-part documentary, “People’s Artist”.
Giga Japaridze has been a permanent member of the Board of the Union of Georgian Theater Achievers, Honorary Citizen of Oni and Ambrolauri, and Cavalier of the Order of Honor since 1961. In 1961, he was awarded the Honorable Achiever of the Arts of Georgia and, in 1980, the Honorary Title of People’s Artist.
