Davit Nozadze pays tribute to martyrs of Tamish battle

The state commissiner for the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region Davit Nozadze  today paid tribute to the martyrs of the Tamish battle. He was accompanied by the leadership of Dusheti municipality, armed personals  and other local residents.

The state commissiner for the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region Davit Nozadze  today paid tribute to the martyrs of the Tamish battle. He was accompanied by the leadership of Dusheti municipality, armed personals  and other local residents.

It is to be added that a dedicated memorial has been erected in memory of the martyrs where every year  a large number of people gather to pay their respect for people who died during their fights against the enemy.

This year  almost  31 years have passed since the battle of Tamish took place. To mark the day  Mtskheta-Mtianeti State Commissioner Davit Nozadze along with Deputy Gocha Kavtaradze, Mayor of Dusheti Municipality Matsatso Narimanidze and the Chairman of the Sakrebulo Kakhaber Chitauri visited the memorial with wreaths to place on the memorial site  . The    memorial in Dusheti were crowned with a wreath by other people, especially those who belonged to the family members of the martyrs.

Also  at the Martyrs cemetery the Metropolitan of Tsilkni and Dusheti, Reverend Zosime, and   Father Grigol (Mgeliashvili), the pastor of St. Nicholas Cathedral, celebrated the funeral service to commemorate the souls of the warriors who died in the battles for Georgia’s territorial integrity.

At the same time the employees of the State Service of Veterans Affairs, representatives of self-government, and local residents   paid tribute to the memory of those who make every national of the country proud.  On the other hand, the members of the Georgian Armed Forces   joined the ceremony with others. They  recalled the great sacrifices the Armed Forces made for the country and to protect Georgia’s integration.

The children attended the event by wearing the traditional attire of ancient times with Georgian national flags in their hands. During his address, the state commissioner termed the sacrifice of the soldiers an excellent contribution one can do for national pride.

It is to be noted that the “Shavnabada,” “Avaza,” and Dusheti battalions of the armed forces have suffered enormous losses in the battle of Tamish. This one of the essential episodes of the war in Abkhazia ragarded in  history of Georgia as a great example of Georgian warriors’ self-sacrifice, unity, and heroism.
