Gori Municipality, Georgia: The Minister of Defense Irakli Chikovani, together with the Commander of Defense Forces, Giorgi Matiashvili, officially opened the regional center in Gori on March 11, 2025, Tuesday.
The Ministry of Defense of Georgia posted snippets of the opening ceremony of the regional center in Gori, on its official Facebook page along with some details about the new regional center. The Ministry noted, ” In Gori, the Regional Center for Military Challenge and Recruitment of Shida Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti started functioning.”
At the opening ceremony, the Georgian Minister of Defense, Irakli Chikovani congratulated the personnel on the operation of the new center and noted that regional centers were given great importance in managing the recruitment and challenge process.
It should be noted that a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony was also held for the inauguration of the new regional center in Gori. After cutting the symbolic ribbon, the Director of the National Agency for Military Challenge and Recruitment, Colonel Irakli Chitanava, introduced the heads of the Defense Agency and invited guests to the center’s infrastructure and introduced its tasks.
Participants of the opening ceremony are:
- Deputies of the Minister of Defense,
- representatives of the defense forces,
- local government
The National Military Challenge and Recruitment Agency of the Defense Forces includes 8 regional centers and 81 municipal divisions. The agency carries out recruitments, recruitment, and challenge measures required for the completion of regular and reserve military personnel of Defense Forces.
It is noteworthy that, new approaches and systems have been implemented, including creating a unified electronic system to provide a case-based algorithm to implement predecessor selection.
Furthermore, the duration of national military service for the former has been shortened, and there has been a considerable increase in remuneration. The new Defense Code has completely renewed compulsory military service, replacing it with the National Service of the Armed Forces as of January 1, 2025. This service can only be fulfilled by the Defense Forces.
