Delegation of MIA of Georgia visits Republic of Latvia

The delegation from Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs, led by Deputy Minister Giorgi Butkhuzi, paid an official visit to the Republic of Latvia.

The delegation from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, led by Deputy Minister Giorgi Butkhuzi, paid an official visit to the Republic of Latvia.

As per the sources, in Latvia, Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Giorgi Butkhuzi, and members of the delegation, including Nikoloz Sharadze, Director of the MIA Border Police, Vazha Siradze, Director of the Migration Department, Mikheil Chikvaidze, and other officials, had important official discussions.

During his visit, Giorgi Butkhuzi met with his Latvian counterpart, Dimitrijs Trofimovs, State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Latvia.

Members of the delegation met with Guntis Pujāts, the Chief of the State Border Guard, and also visited the Republic of Latvia’s border checkpoint and administrative boundary line, where they got familiarised with the work specifics of the State Border Guard of the Republic of the Latvia.

During the visit, Georgian Border Police Head Nikoloz Sharadze and Latvian State Border Guard Chief Guntis Pujts signed a memorandum under which the Republic of Latvia will gift a helicopter to Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs in the near future.

Transportation of the helicopter to Georgia, as well as relevant training for pilots and engineers, will be conducted under the project of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) – “Strengthening of the Georgian Border Police (GBP) capacities for green and sea border surveillance”.

Within the framework of the same visit, the 2022 cooperation plan in the field of border protection was also signed between the parties. From the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, the document was signed by the Heads of the Border Police, the Patrol Police Department and the Migration Department, and from the Latvian side – the Chief of the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia.

Yesterday, 32 new sedan-type hybrid vehicles were added to the Adjara police units in order to improve the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ police infrastructure.
