Georgia: The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Solomon Pavliashvili met with fish farmers on February 17, 2025, Monday.
LEPL State Laboratory of Agriculture of Georgia shared glimpses of their meeting on its official Facebook page on the same day. The Ministry also shared a small note about the meeting.
Participants of the meeting held in Gori Municipality:
- Shida Kartli State Representative Levan Kharabadze,
- Vladimir Khinchegashvili, Acting Mayor of Gori Municipality
- Simon Guledani, the deputy state representative of Shida Kartli region,
- Irakli Guledani, Director of the State Laboratory of Agriculture,
- Rural Development Agency,
- National Food Agency,
- State Laboratory of Agricultural Agriculture
- Representatives of the Association of Fish Farmers of Georgia.
According to the information shared by the Ministry, it should be noted that the State Laboratory of Agriculture has already implanted all necessary research for the diagnosis of fish diseases in its network.
The participants of the meeting discussed measures to identify challenges in the aquaculture sector and the measures that can be adopted to increase the sustainability of fish production.
The parties in the meeting held in Gori also discussed the potential of Georgian aquaculture, current developments, and news issues.
It is noteworthy that, the heads of departments of Agriculture State Laboratory Animal Diseases Diagnosis and Food Research gave presentations on fish disease diagnosis and laboratory research on fish and fish products to the fishery farmers participating in the meeting.
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia noted, “Products made in Georgia must undergo laboratory testing with the proper standards to advance the aquaculture industry and generate goods that satisfy competitive, global standards. “These days, research is done in Georgia to diagnose fish diseases through a network of international agricultural laboratories,” he added.
Solomon Pavliashvili also stated that the government is prepared to encourage the export of fish, mussels, and carcasses made in Georgia, including to the EU market.
As the Deputy Minister pointed out, plans were established and the difficulties facing fishermen were also discussed during the meeting with fishery farmers.
