Dior’s Georgian painter’s exhibition to take place in National Gallery

With the support of Thea Tsulukiani and organized by the Museum of Art Palace-Culture of Georgia, the National Gallery named after Dimitri Shevardnadze is hosting a large-scale exhibition of emigrant Georgian painter Tamar de Lete-Vachnadze.

With the support of Thea Tsulukiani and organized by the Museum of Art Palace-Culture of Georgia, the National Gallery named after Dimitri Shevardnadze is hosting a large-scale exhibition of emigrant Georgian painter Tamar de Lete-Vachnadze.

The opening event was attended by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia, Thea Tsulukiani and the main sponsor of the exhibition, General Director of the Bank of Georgia, Archil Gachechiladze.

It is noteworthy that on the initiative of the Minister of Culture of Georgia, Thea Tsulukiani, and the heritage of Tamar de Lette-Vachnadze – his works and private archive, as a result of negotiations with the descendants of the artist, were handed over to the Palace of Arts of Georgia in 2022.

A group of museums led by Giorgi Kalandia brought the collection from Brittany, especially from the French village of Lampaluz-Pouluarzel, to Georgia.

The works returned to the Art Palace include more than 30 canvases and more than 300 graphic paintings or sketches (directions: book and theatre painting, fashion design, etc.). ), more than 200 archival photos.

Tamar de Lette-Vachnadze worked in many directions. He was a São Paulo theatre painter for years. He created several sketches for the French fashion house Dior in the 1950s.

As the archival documents read, he “created ballet productions – writing scripts, choosing music, painting sets, creating costumes and technical details that made the spectacle unforgettable for the audience”.

In the 1960s-80s, his exhibitions were held in Paris, in the Gallery of the XVI District, in the Salon “Sophitel Group 36” halls of the National Society of the Aerospace Industry or the Centre of French Culture in Luxembourg. She designed costumes for theatres, performances at the Locronan Festival, and more.

The exhibition includes artists’ theatre and book drawings, graphics, collages and applications, sketches, and children’s puppets. “The Bank of Georgia” supports the project with the Ministry of Culture.

It is worth noting that the catalogue of Tamar de Lette-Vachnadze’s works was published with the support of the National Bank of Georgia.

The viewers can see the exhibition until December 16.
