A project worth 90 million euros is being implemented in the municipalities of Garangabni and Sagarejo, which involves the full rehabilitation of the Upper Samgori irrigation system. The project covers 19,129.4 hectares of agricultural land and provides the renewal of irrigation infrastructure.
The Georgian Amelioration shared the glimpses of the gathering in which the project was discussed on its official Facebook Page on May 6, 2026, Wednesday. A small note about the project was also shared along with the glimpses of the meeting.
The importance of the Upper Samgori irrigation system rehabilitation project and expected results were introduced to local government representatives and the population in Garadabani municipality.
Gigla Tamazashvili, the general director of “Georgian Melioration” LLC, attended the presentation with the company’s representatives. “The large-scale rehabilitation of the Upper Samgori irrigation system is part of the reform in the melioration sector.”
“Such infrastructural projects significantly improve the quality of irrigation water supply, increase the productivity of agricultural production, and contribute to the development of the agro-sector in the region,” stated Gigla Tamazashvili, the CEO of Georgian Melioration LLC.
The project plans to repair damaged areas of the upper and lower highway channels, paving sections of land, rehabilitation of second and third row channels, and, if necessary, arrange the fourth row distribution network in villages. Paldo will also be repaired and installed with modern SCADA-compatible water level and cost-metering facilities.
The project is being implemented with the financial support of the European Investment Bank, in cooperation with the French Development Agency (AFD), the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, and the Ministry of Finance.
