Tbilisi’s Historic Rustaveli Avenue to Undergo Comprehensive Restoration

According to the initiative of Tbilisi City Hall, the “Tbilisi Development Fund” will start rehabilitation works on Rustaveli Avenue from next year.

In the first stage, the facades, roofs, construction parts and waterways will be rehabilitated, and underground communications and road infrastructure will be fixed in the next stage.

The capital’s main Christmas tree will be lit on December 15. On December 16, the “New Year’s Village” will be opened, which will be located in Orbeliani Square and the Mother Language Garden. On December 31, a gala concert will be held on Republic Square.

Within the framework of the accidental multi-storey housing replacement program, project documentation is being prepared at 12 addresses. By the end of the year, tenders will be announced at ten more addresses.

On July 7, 2011, the territory of Ilia Garden was handed over to LLC “Business Center Mosaic” for 49 years. The contract provides an obligation that during its period of operation, the company shall provide for the maintenance of the territory. If the company fails to do it, start talking to cancel the existing contract.

A pedestrian bridge was set up on the 15th kilometre of David Agmashenebeli’s alley near Maghaladzebi Street. Tbilisi City Hall Environmental Service rehabilitated the square near Satshenisi Street N20 in Varketili.

Tbilisi received a special award in the Swiss Tourism Awards – “Destination to Discover”, and the company “Wanderlust” was nominated for “Europe’s Most Desirable City” award.

In the first stage, facades, roofs, structural elements, and drainage channels of the existing buildings on the Avenue will be rehabilitated; in the subsequent stage, underground communications and road infrastructure will be improved.

On December 15, the main Christmas tree of the capital will be lit, and on December 16, the “New Year Village” will open, which this year is to be located on Orbeliani Square and in Dedaena Park. On December 31, a gala concert will be held on Republic Square.

Project documentation is being prepared for 12 addresses under the program of replacing dilapidated apartment buildings, and tenders will be announced for ten additional addresses by the end of the year.

On July 7, 2011, the territory of Ilia Garden was transferred to “Business Center Mosaic” Ltd. with the right of management for 49 years. The contract contains an obligation that the company must ensure order and maintenance of the territory during the term of its validity. If the said company cannot do so, the issue of terminating the said contract shall be put on the agenda.

A pedestrian bridge has been built on the 15th kilometre of David Agmashenebeli Alley, on the territory adjacent to Magaladzeebi Street.

The Municipal Department of Environment Protection of Tbilisi City Hall rehabilitated the square adjacent to Satskhenisi Street N20 in Varketili.

Tbilisi received a special award in the “Destination to be discovered” category from the Swiss Tourism Awards ceremony. Wanderlust also nominated it for the “Most Desirable City in Europe” Award.
