Personal Data Protection Service Launches Podcast Series on New Law Image Credits: Facebook
Georgia: The Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia (‘the Service’) participated in the global celebration of Data Protection Day, also known as Data Privacy Day, on January 28, 2024.
The Service shared its activities and achievements on the Global Privacy Assembly (‘GPA’) website, the international data protection and privacy authorities forum.
The GPA published information on its website about the measures taken by the supervisory bodies of different countries dedicated to the Day of Personal Data Protection. The shared material included the activities organized by the Service, which aimed to raise awareness and promote the new Law on Personal Data Protection (‘the Law’), which entered into force on September 1, 2023.
The Service held an event on January 28, 2023, mainly dedicated to the Law and its implementation. Representatives of the public and private sectors, civil society, academia, media, and international organizations attended the event.
The speakers presented the main novelties and challenges of the Law, which is based on the principles and standards of the modernized Convention for the Protection of Individuals about Automatic Processing of Personal Data (‘Convention 108+’) and the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) (‘GDPR’).
The event also featured the presentation of new print editions and videos on the importance of privacy and data protection, produced by the Service with the support of the European Union and the Council of Europe. The publications and videos are available on the Service’s website and social media platforms.
The Service also launched a new online platform for data controllers and processors, which allows them to register their data processing activities, request permission for data transfers, and access guidance and resources on data protection compliance.
The Service expressed its commitment to continue ensuring the effective protection of personal data and privacy in Georgia in cooperation with the GPA and other national and international partners.
