Ambrolauri administrative building undergoes major renovation

A five-storey building on Kostava street N38 in Ambrolauri city is undergoing repair and rehabilitation works to host the trustee administration, the municipality, and the city council services.

Ambrolauri Municipality, Georgia: A five-storey building on Kostava street N38 in Ambrolauri city is undergoing repair and rehabilitation works to host the trustee administration, the municipality, and the city council services. The project, which started in September 2023, is expected to be completed in April 2024, with a contractual cost of 778 015.27 GEL.

The project consists of two stages: the first one involves the complete rehabilitation of the interior, including electricity, low currents, heating, ventilation, and water supply; the second one involves the furnishing of the outer perimeter. The project aims to improve the working conditions and the public service delivery of the local authorities.

The current administrative building, which is located on the same street, will be returned to the Ministry of Health, where the Ambrolauri Emergency Medical Center and various promotional facilities of the ministry will be located. The move will benefit the health sector and the local population.

The renovation project was inspected by the Racha-Lechkhum – Lower Svaneti state commissioner Papuna Margvelidze, the majoritarian MP Gocha Enukidze, the deputies Christina Kobakhidze, Aluda Tutisan, and Berdia Chankseliani, the mayor of Ambrolauri municipality Zviad Mkheidze, and the chairman of the city council Aslan Saganelidze. They expressed their satisfaction with the progress and the quality of the works.

Ambrolauri Municipality

The Ambrolauri Municipality is a self-governing subdivision in western Georgia. Its governing bodies are based in the city of Ambrolauri. Together with the neighboring municipalities Lentekhi, Oni, and Tsageri, the Ambrolauri Municipality forms the region of Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti. 

The municipality was created as a raion in 1930. Until then, its territory was part of Racha Uyezd in Kutaisi Governorate and between 1928 and 1930 of the short-lived Racha-Lechkhumi Uyezd when it became an independent district (raion). In 1951–1953, it was a part of the Kutaisi Okrug. With the creation of administrative regions in 1995, Ambrolauri became part of Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo. In 2006 the raion was transformed into a municipality.
