Georgia: Georgian Minister of Culture and Sports Thea Tsulukiani visited Zinaida Kverenchkhiladze Dmanisi State Dramatic Theater and got acquainted with the Mayor of Dmanisi Municipality Koba Muradashvili.
She also met the artistic director of Dmanisi Theater, Giorgi Sikharulidze, and the famous Georgian scientist Jumper Kopaliani, one of the Theater’s Founders, about the large-scale rehabilitation works in the theater.
After handing over the balance of the building rubble to the Ministry of Dmanisi Municipality, with financial support from the Ministry, large-scale rehabilitation works of the theatre have been actively underway since 2023.
A project was prepared in 2022 – 2023 for which the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia allocated 188 000 GEL.
For the implementation of the project, the Ministry of Culture allocated 4 900 000 GEL. Within the framework of this project, the hall, the spaces used by the theatre, and the actors’ residences will be rehabilitated. Also, 125 sq.m. will be built separately in the theater yard.

Once the works are completed, the theatre will be international and equipped with modern lighting and sound equipment standards and a hall with up to 200 spectators. The rehabilitation work will be completed in autumn 2024.
In 1990, the establishment of the theatre studio “Kvemo Kartli” in Dmanisi was connected with the name Zinaida Kverenchkhiladze and other peers. Dmanisi Professional State Dramatic Theater is named after Zinaida Kverenchkhiladze, which started a new life in 2022 with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
In particular, the theatre’s annual budget has increased to 408 462 GEL, before 26 000 GEL. The Ministry’s budget increase has continued in the following years: in 2023, it increased to 545 000 GEL, and in 2024 – to 575 000 GEL.
Under the leadership of the theater’s new artistic director, Giorgi Sikharulidze, a permanent das was formed from young actors; the theater was allocated funding for further expenses. Cultural and creative processes will be strengthened in the region after the completion of rehabilitation works.
