Georgia: The Georgian Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth has prepared a new project, National Goals of General Education, formed as a final version with wide-scale public discussion and maximum involvement of school community members.
On the initiative of the Education Ministry, the public deliberations of the draft National Goals Document of General Education have been held actively for several weeks.
They were attended by the Parliamentary Education, Science and Youth Committee of Georgia, Committee of Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration, Standing Parliamentary Council for Protection of Child Rights, Government Administration Department of Human Rights, apparatus of State Minister for Civil Integration of Reconciliation, Department of State Language, Representatives of Centre for Environmental Education, NATO Information Centre, Council for Authorization of General Education Institutions, experts in the field, representatives of school community – teachers, pupils, parents, principals of public and private schools, students.
The final version of the document was prepared after analyzing the feedback received from the public discussion.
The document is based on values and principles such as:
• Patriotism and national spirit
• statesman mentality
• Respect for the family institution
• State language, history, and culture
• Ethnic diversity and cultural heritage
• Free, democratic, and peaceful society
• Construction of a legal and social state
• Sustainable development and welfare of society
• Inclusion, Tolerance and Justice
• High civic awareness
• Common sense, moral, and ethical principles
• Rights, obligations, and social responsibility
• Environmental awareness, healthy lifestyle, and physical, aesthetic,
socio-emotional development
• Analytical and critical thinking
• Academic knowledge and literacy
• a high culture of communication
• Digital citizenship, creativity, and news reception
The national goals of general education will guide the improvement of the curriculum, educational resources, and the school environment, which will ensure the achievement of the school’s goals.
The National Objective Document for General Education was approved in 2004 and has stayed the same for 20 years. This document is a uniform constitution of general education.
