MTA Head gives speech on International Day of Sailors

Georgia: The head of the Maritime Transport Agency (MTA) gave a speech at an event dedicated to the International Day of Sailors. He said, “High technologies, proper service, sec, purity, and high-quality education will help Georgia occupy a worthy place among the maritime countries in the world.”

Georgian sailors were congratulated on their professional day by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Tornike Rizhvadze and Head of Maritime Transport Agency Alexi Akhvlediani.

“I would like to congratulate all sailors on their professional holiday, especially our Georgian sailors and the first-year students who took oath today.

This year’s Sailor’s Day is highlighted by the fact that we meet with high-tech ports and safer harbors; in just a few days, on July 1, the “Sailor’s Labor” Act comes into force, another step forward to protecting our sailors’ rights both in our territorial waters and anywhere else worldwide. Congratulations again to all sailors, and safe sailing! ” Alexi Akhvlediani said.

At the ceremonial ceremony, long sailing captain Anzor Diasamidze, general director of “Black Sea Terminal” Ilgar Ali-Zada, chancellor of Batumi Navigation University Lali Khvedelidze, long sailing captain Archil Inasaridze, as well as long sailing captains Vazha Jangveladze and Aleksandre Surmanidze were awarded for their unique contribution to the development of the maritime field. Anikos: Ali Sarishvili and Anatoni Sikharulidze, Soslan Chkhaidze, the head of the cruising company “El-Victor” and Eka Baramidze, head of marine transport Agetto, marine single window system management service.

At the end of the official part of the event, a minute’s silence was held to honor the sailors who died in the line of duty, and, as is tradition, a ceremony of launching into the Crown Sea was performed against ship horns.

June 25 is International Sailor’s Day, which Georgia, the International Maritime Organization, and other maritime countries celebrate together.

As a maritime country, Georgia’s development in this field is strategically important, and Georgian sailors play the biggest role in it.

The employment rate of sailors and their contribution to the Georgian economy is increasing every year—Georgia has up to 19000 sailors who can already be employed under 74 navy flags. The campaign for 2024 will focus on the contribution of seafarers to making the maritime sector a safer workplace.
