Rehabilitation of Shashiani’s trinity begins

Georgia: A monument of cultural heritage dating back to the 6th century, the Church Basilica Shashiani Trinity is located on a forest relief site in Gurjaani municipality, about 3-4 km from the village of Shashiani.

The temple has built different warehouses from the west and south. On the west side, there is a three-meter-wide sheath left at the plan level, while at the northwest corner, there are remnants of a small rectangular storage and bed. It is interesting to see the crypt in the southeast corner of the temple—the skeleton, whose roof is knocked down.

According to the order of the National Agency for Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia, in 2023, together with preparing project-cost documentation of the temple’s rehabilitation works, the temple, and its surrounding area were cleared of soil and trees under the supervision of an archeologist, resulting in various types of building materials being saved and the rehabilitation process started. They will get used to it.

The temple is in dire condition. The central ferry chamber is completely down, and the south and north ferry walls are bent, with cracks noted. Accordingly, this year, it is planned to reconstruct the temple completely and conserve the buildings and bones.

During the rehabilitation works, the foundation will be built on the entire perimeter of the temple, the amortized southern boat will be placed on the furnace of Kiri, the northern boat will be fully restored with Kiri’s solution, the pillar in the boat will be fixed, and the central boat’s chamber and conck will be restored with Georgian bricks and Kiri’s solutions.

Shrimi stone shelf-lavgarden will be installed on all three boats of the temple. The facade and interior will be removed in the later cement pile, and deep seams will be cleaned. A Georgian brick floor will be laid in the entire temple, and the garbage will be covered with Georgian kramite. Sarineli will be installed on the entire perimeter of the temple.

The winning company in the electronic tender—A(A)IP “Historical Dog Rehabilitation Center“—will carry out rehabilitation works. The agency has allocated 433 602 GEL for the work.
